We offer a variety of legal services, including eviction defense, foreclosure prevention, bankruptcy and consumer debt relief, elder abuse restraining orders, and powers of attorney.
We are seeking an experienced legal secretary/legal assistant who will mainly work on our foreclosure prevention litigation files.
Qualifications:
At least one year working as a legal secretary/legal assistant; Some familiarity with legal concepts, documents, and terminology; Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to use internet, email, Microsoft Office applications, and databases; Friendly attitude and good phone etiquette; Well-organized, detail-oriented, and reliable; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Commitment to serving older adults; Ability to interact productively with a diverse community.
Preferred Experience and Capabilities:
Bachelor's degree; Experience in a nonprofit legal services environment; Fluency in Spanish or other language relevant to the communities we serve.
Responsibilities:
Communicating with clients, witnesses, opposing counsel, and vendors; Calendaring deadlines; Organizing and maintaining case files; Drafting and formatting basic documents; Proofreading; Filing and serving papers; Assistance with written discovery.
